qss bqckaqrds1

first off; qs you ,ight be qble to see; this keyboqrd is totqlly bqckzqrds:

What the hell did she just say, you ask? Right, well first lesson as I sat down to type this...the keyboards are ass backwards with far too many letters with accents and symbols I just am not used to. I should be timing myself to see how long this damn blog takes me to type out, and work at typing lessons to improve my speed as the weeks go on. (Wow flashback to learning home row in primary school, ha!)

Soooo......Paris. It's no longer Paris, but rather said with french accent, Paris. Um, I have yet to actually see it, but in the coming weeks I'll get there. For now, my journey started off with my flight being delayed out of Montreal and then them losing 1 of my bags in Paris, so poor Veronique and little Victor were waiting for this bright young Canadian au pair to show up and needless to say they were stressing that maybe I'd changed my mind last minute and not shown up for my flight...or some worst-case scenario like that.
They assure me they will send my bags to me by express post by tommorrow. I dont have a toothbrush or deodorant and frankly I dont want to give this family any bad first impressions like that....yikes.

It's a beautiful sunny day here in farm country....yes, Betz in the Crepy de Vallee region (don't quote me on that, based on the road signs getting here that's where I'm sure I am...) is the agricultural centre of France....grrrrreat. Where's the mountains, the water, something that doesn't make me think I'm just in the Fraser Valley or the Prairies....oh right. The castle that belongs to the king of Morrocco right across the street, behind that long stone wall. Nothing to get excited about, I mean he only comes once every 10 years apparantly. But our neighbour across the street is a Kings' castle. Ok.

I have literally been here only 4 hours, so there isn't much to describe about the place, but it's always that beginning-of-a-trip-euphoria that I'm still reeling from. Descending over Paris this morning with the warm morning light cascading over the city was keeping me glued to my airplane window....I always feel like a little kid when I'm flying into my destination, eyes big with wonder and excitement taking it all in; trying to piece the city together as if I would remember it when I land and have to navigate from the airport....ha!

I watched as the wing of the plane graced over all the little buildings below so beautifully, wanting to capture that scene in my mind forever, literally this birds eye view. It was that scene this morning, as the captain announced "...bienvenue à Paris" that for a mere split second I almost burst in to tears of joy, much the same as I've felt on my other trips - like hugging myself for this moment of achievement, this renewed sense of pure freedom and independance of embarking on not just a different continent, but a different adventure that is life defining every step of the way.

I just got plucked out of that morning scene by Victor standing at the door telling me he has "fini les devoirs" and so has Edouard....guess that means it's time for my tour of the town. Veronique stayed behind a little this morning after bringing me home but had to soon get to work, so I'm left for my first day with the boys as my hosts, and being such a beautiful warm sunny day, we're getting out of the barn...er, house. (Have I mentioned how lovely it is? My room is bright cheerful and so welcoming....I feel like part of the family already, really)

2 last things: every car here is standard and NOT on the opposite side as I thought, and I am driving the boys to-from the school bus each day....this excites me to drive in a foreign country! And last thing? It is customary to eat dessert after each meal: think I'm gonna like it here!

à plutard!
Allie

Hope you get your bags soon! Are you responsible for making desserts? May as well learn some French pastry making skills while you're there.
